Midjourney is releasing its 5th update very soon. The newest version of the popular AI image generator will see a range of new features. Not least of these, more accurate renditions of hands. Previous versions have been renowned for adding extra fingers to images of people.

The fifth version promises to be even better than the previous version 4, which already saw a huge improvement from previous iterations. Other features will include higher res images with greater detail and advancements in stylistic prompts.

The promise of higher-resolution images will be a big improvement for many people wishing to incorporate AI into their creative workflow. Up until now, the resolution was extremely limited around the 1000px range.

Up until now, 6-fingered people and weird eyes were problems that plagued AI image generators. The reason for this is that there simply weren’t as many images for the machines to learn from as there were of faces. As many painters will tell you, they spend years learning how to perfect eyes and hands. It seems like AI is no different.

However, all that is promised to change with Midjourney’s update. Let’s see just how much better it really is. Of course, AI imaging is continually creating controversy across the creative spheres, with Open AI now announcing the introduction of text-to-video.

I’ve had a play around with Midjourney, and my results have been mixed. I don’t hate it, I must admit. And being terrible at drawing, I can certainly see the allure. I am currently standing with one foot firmly in each camp. The ‘wow, isn’t this a great creative tool’ camp, and the ‘OMG, this is terrifying we will all lose our jobs’ camp. Only time will tell.

At least now, with the latest update, we will hopefully only have 5 fingers on each hand when we wave goodbye to our creative professions!
