Price and photos leak ahead of OM System 90mm f/3.5 Macro IS lens announcement
After a little bit of a specs leak last week, photos of the upcoming OM System M.Zuiko Digital ED 90mm f/3.5 Macro IS PRO lens have now leaked, along with a price. There doesn’t seem to be anything in the way of new specs, but a selection of images shows what the lens looks like on its own, in a full macro rig with flash, its various accessories, along with some examples apparently shot using the lens.
The lens is still expected to be announced tomorrow, although there’s no word on exactly when it’ll be available or start shipping yet. According to the latest leaks, though, it’s expected to have a price of 231,000 yen in Japan. This seems pretty high, as that equates to around $1,750. That’s an awful lot of money for a macro lens of this focal length and aperture.
As a reminder, here are the specs according to last week’s leak.
- OM SYSTEM “M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 90mm F3.5 Macro IS PRO” was published in overseas dealers.
- M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 90mm F3.5 Macro IS PRO
- Lens construction: 18 elements in 13 groups (2 Super ED lenses, 4 ED lenses, 1 Super HR lens, 1 HR lens)
- Minimum focusing distance: 22.4 cm
- Maximum magnification: 2.0x (35mm equivalent: 4.0x)
- Filter diameter: 62mm
- Size: φ69.8 x 136mm
- Weight: 453g
- Image stabilization effect: Up to 6 steps (Lens IS), up to 7 steps (Sync IS)
- Dustproof, splashproof, and freezeproof performance
We’ll hear the full announcement and get confirmation on that price tomorrow, I suppose, but if it really is going to be around $1,750, I can’t see this one being a hot seller. Even if it does have autofocus and optical stabilisation, that price tag is going to be a tough one to swallow vs something like the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L and a Metabones or Viltrox adapter, which also provides autofocus with Micro Four Thirds cameras.
